Ending a Meeting
Moderators can end a BigBlueButton meeting for all participants or leave the meeting individually while the conference continues. Understanding the difference between these options is important to avoid accidentally disconnecting everyone.
Ending the Meeting for Everyone
When a moderator ends the meeting, the conference room is immediately closed for all participants. No one can re-enter the room until a moderator starts a new session.
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper right corner.
Select End meeting.
Confirm the action. The meeting is immediately closed for all participants.
If a recording was active, it will be processed after the meeting ends. Make sure to end the meeting properly so that the recording is saved correctly.
Leaving the Meeting (Conference Continues)
If you only want to leave the meeting yourself without ending it for everyone, use the "Leave meeting" option instead:
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper right corner.
Select Leave meeting or Log out.
When you leave the meeting, the conference continues for all remaining participants. This is useful when participants need a few more minutes to finish a discussion without the moderator present.
Pay close attention to the difference: End meeting closes the room for everyone. Leave meeting only removes you from the conference.
Automatic Meeting End
A meeting can also end automatically in the following situations:
- The scheduled end time configured in the management interface (bbbserver dashboard, Greenlight, or LMS) has been reached.
- The meeting can be ended through the management interface of a learning management system, depending on the integration.
- All participants have left the room. For quick meetings, the room automatically closes after a timeout period (typically 60 minutes).
Recordings are only finalized when the meeting is properly ended. If you started a recording, always use "End meeting" to ensure the recording is correctly processed and saved.
