Chapter 41 Moderator Presenter Guest

Personal Settings

Every participant in a BigBlueButton meeting can customize their personal settings through the three-dot menu in the upper right corner. These settings include language, dark mode, font size, notifications, and data saving options, as well as access to keyboard shortcuts and help.

Opening the Settings

Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper right corner of the meeting room.

Select Open settings.

Available Settings

Setting Description
Interface language Choose the language of the BigBlueButton user interface. This only affects your own view.
Dark mode Activate a dark color scheme that is easier on the eyes in low-light environments. Available since BigBlueButton 2.6.
Font size Adjust the text size in the interface to improve readability.
Notifications Configure audio and popup notifications for chat messages and raised hands.
Data saving Reduce bandwidth usage by disabling webcams or adjusting audio quality. Useful for slow or unstable connections.

Personal settings only apply to your own session. They do not affect other participants in the meeting.

Keyboard Shortcuts

BigBlueButton provides keyboard shortcuts for quick access to common functions. To view the complete list of available shortcuts:

Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper right corner.

Select Keyboard shortcuts.

A dialog opens showing all available keyboard shortcuts for controlling audio, video, and other meeting functions.

Help

The help option in the three-dot menu redirects you to the BigBlueButton help documentation. Note that this documentation is available in English only.

Logging Out

To leave the meeting without ending it for everyone:

Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper right corner.

Select Log out. The meeting continues for all other participants.

If you are a moderator and want to end the meeting for everyone, use "End meeting" instead of "Log out". Logging out only removes you from the conference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some settings like language preference and dark mode may be remembered by your browser for future meetings, depending on the BigBlueButton version and your browser configuration. However, it is recommended to check your settings at the start of each meeting.

Dark mode was introduced in BigBlueButton 2.6. If your server is running an older version, this option may not be available.

The data saving option reduces bandwidth usage by disabling the display of webcams from other participants and potentially reducing audio quality. This can help if you have a slow or unstable internet connection.

Open the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper right corner and select "Keyboard shortcuts". A list of all available shortcuts will be displayed.
